Cain’s Wife: Where Did She Come From

Cain’s wife may be the most individual talked about throughout history, and the question is, why? Even the famous Scopes Trial of 1925 in Tennessee, raised the question of Cain’s wife.

ACLU lawyer Clarence Darrow asked William Jennings Bryan, the lawyer for the Christian view if he knew how Cain got his wife, and Mr. Bryan was unable to answer this question.

The Christian world should have had its eyes opened when Christianity lost. The reason for this loss is, most Christians fail to defend Holy Scriptures. Many reasons could be given, but why waste time; we must move on and be better.

We must always be ready to give an answer for the hope that is within us as Scripture teaches.

In 1 Peter 3:15, it says,

15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.

An attempt will be provided to help you understand how Cain got his wife, and as to the tools, you already have it in front of you, The Holy Bible, God’s Word. However, we must first give a little background information before we start.

Answer to the Problem of Cain’s Wife

Why should it be important to be able to respond to this question?

First, many people have the notion that God created many races on earth. It was of this other race of individuals where Cain supposedly got his wife.

The very nature of this has been a stumbling block for many Christians to believe what is in Scripture. The result is a compromise on the part of many fellow Christians into believing that the first eleven chapters of Genesis are untrue. This rejection has gained much support throughout Christendom.

This refusal has led to theistic evolution, the gap theory, the destruction and re-creation of the Earth.

Thus, we come to the very nature of this writing. All Christians must be able to demonstrate that all humanity comes from ONE BLOOD LINE, Adam and Eve. Sin was brought into the world by Adam as Scripture states.

In Romans 5:12, it says,

12 Therefore, just as through one-man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.

In 1 Corinthians 15:45, it says,

45 So also it is written, “The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING SOUL.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

Sin passed to all because all are descendants of Adam. The scriptures also stated that Eve was the mother of ALL the living.

In Genesis 3:20, it says,

20 Now the man called his wife’s name Eve because she was the mother of all the living.

This “ALL,” simply put means no person came into being without Eve as their mother for all individuals today and the past come from her.

In Romans 3:23, it says,

23 for all have sinned and fell short of the glory of God

What Can One Do?

The final solution to the sin of man was that the Lord Jesus Christ died upon the cross to redeem all mankind. Jesus Christ gives eternal life freely to all that asks.

In 1 Corinthians 15:22, it says,

22 For as in Adam all died, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

It was the shed blood of Jesus Christ that will save our soul for all eternity if we but accept it. Without the shedding of Jesus Christ’s blood, the individual’s wickedness is still exposed to the wrath of God. The blood of Jesus covers all the sins of a person who seeks forgiveness, and these transgressions will never be revealed again throughout all eternity.

In Hebrews 9:22, it says,

22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.

Jesus Christ was the perfect man. He hung on the cross between heaven and earth as the go-between and mediator for all mankind.

One Race of People

There is only one race of man, and this means we are all related. We are basically one color just different shades of the color. We are our brother’s keeper, and we are looking out for each other because we are family.

In Acts 17:26, it says,

26 and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation.

Every individual on this planet started with Adam and Eve. Thus we are of one blood. There is no such thing as races, only people groups having different cultures and customs.

If we could wrap our thinking around this concept and realize we are related then we just possibly could all get along with each other.

This also means that Cain’s wife was a descendant of Adam. Since the rib taken from Adam’s side had his DNA, we can say with certainty that even Eve’s blood possessed Adam’s DNA.

She couldn’t have come from another “race” of people as many people say. The Holy Scriptures are clear that all mankind came from Adam and Eve, and Eve is the mother of ALL the living.

In Genesis 3:20, it says,

20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all the living.

Eve was made from Adam’s side, as this was a unique event.

In Genesis 2:21-24, it says,

21 So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place. 22 The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man and brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh. She shall be called Woman because she was taken out of Man.” 24 For this reason, a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

In the New Testament, Jesus (Matthew 19:4-6) and Paul (Ephesians 5:31) use this one-time event as the foundation for the marriage of one man and one woman.

In Matthew 19:4-6, Jesus says,

4 And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE. 5 ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER, AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH’? 6 “So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”

In Ephesians 5:31, Paul says,

God removed one rib making it evident that He created only ONE woman, Adam’s wife, from the beginning. There could not have been a “race” of women.

Cain’s Wife and Where She Came From

There are only three first-generation children mentioned in Scripture about Adam and Eve, Cain (Genesis 4:1), Able (Genesis 4:2) and Seth (Genesis 4:25). Adam had many children referred to as “sons and daughters” (Genesis 5:4). There have been many guesses as to the total number of first-generation children, and to know the number of children is not a concern

In Genesis 5:4-5, it says,

4 Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters. 5 So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.

Adam and Eve had many children, and during the beginning of creation, there was NO law against the marriage of a brother or sister or to any of their children. So, Cain chose one of his relatives either a sister or cousin to be his wife; we do not know which he chose. We do know that he picked a human being and that Eve was the mother of ALL the living.

In Genesis 3:20, it says,

20 Now the man called his wife’s name Eve because she was the mother of all the living.

God told His creation to be fruitful and to multiply and fill the earth. This could only be accomplished if relatives intermarried among each other as spoken of in Scripture

In Genesis 1:28, it says,

28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Oppositions Raised for Intermarriage

Many people reject the idea that Adam and Eve’s sons and daughters married each other, for the law was against brothers and sisters to intermarry. They say that one cannot marry his or her relative. The thing is if you don’t marry your relation, one does not marry a human.

Husbands and wives are related to each other before they are even married because we are all descendants of Adam and Eve. We are all one blood, yet, the law forbids close relatives to marry. The law, in this case, was not given until the time of Moses some 2,500 years later in (Leviticus 18-20).

Keep in mind that Abraham was married to his half-sister according to scripture.

In Genesis 20:12, it says,

12 Besides, she is my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife.

Biological Deformities of Closely Married People

Since offspring inherit their parent’s DNA information, they also collect defects that have been passed down through generations. Unlike the DNA of our first parents, Adam and Eve were perfect beings. Yet the DNA defects started with their children.

Genes today contain many mistakes because of sin and the Curse, and this terrible DNA has an accumulative effect. Thus, those first 2,500 years an individual’s DNA became so corrupt that God had to institute a ruling on marrying certain close relatives as stated in (Leviticus 18-20). So, the closer the relationship the greater the offspring will inherit corrupt DNA from both parents.

The problem is that people look at close relations marrying from the point-of-view of today. Forgetting that when God made everything and looking back, he declared it “very good,” no mistakes in the DNA as we know it is today.

As stated by the time of Moses (about 2,500 years later), degenerative mistakes would have accumulated to such an extent in the human race that it would have been necessary for God to bring in the laws forbidding brother and sister, and close relatives to marry in Leviticus 18-20.

Cain and the Land of Nod

Some claim that Cain went, into the land of Nod and found a wife. When one looks at these verses, one can clearly see it does not say that.

In Genesis 4:16-17, it says,

16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden. 17 Cain had relations with his wife, and she conceived and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son.

In verse seventeen, it states that Cain had relations (sexual), with his wife, and she had a son. Nowhere in Scripture does it indicate Cain traveled to the land of Nod to look for a spouse.

One theory of why Cain went to Nod was his fear of being killed by close family members for murdering his brother Able. Another theory could be that he could not face his mother and father for killing his brother.

The point is that Scripture records this event, and maybe one-day some archeologist will discover in a dig somewhere and find the actual reason why Cain went to Nod.

Cain built a City: He had the Technology

Far too many Americans think that people from the past were ignorant, but this is an ego concept because these people look at their technology and forget that this technology is built on 6,000 years of knowledge. The descendants of Adam and Eve were intelligent people

In Genesis 4:21, it says,

21 His brother’s, name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who played the lyre and pipe.

So, Jubal was a musician and made people happy with music.

In Genesis 4:22, it says,

22 As for Zillah, she also gave birth to Tubal-Cain, the forger of all implements of bronze and iron; and the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.

Tubal-Cain had the knowledge to work with metal. These people were much more intelligent than we give them credit for.

As I already stated our technology today is the total accumulation of over 6000 years of brain development.

One cannot understand Scripture while using world history as today’s standard. One must look at these changes with the eyes of the individuals going through that era of time to see the truth, and that is what makes a true scholar.

Remember, Eve was the mother of ALL the living. Only one people not many as some would try to have you believe.

About Dr. George Gallant

I have had the opportunity to work in many fields in my life, and excelled in all of them. I started as a mechanic in the Army then went to the Infantry in Vietnam. After returning to America, I worked as a mechanic for a few more years off and on until I found a position as a Dialysis Technician until I became a Chief specialist in a major Boston hospital. In 1981, I became a Police Office in a small town in Northeast Georgia and continued to work with law-enforcement for seven years. I also preached the Word of God in the Toccoa community and wished that I could have found a church that would have taken me on to preach every week. In 1993, I became a computer programmer for many years and loved that job much. In 2003, my wife came down with the worst breast cancer one could get, so I retired and took care of her until her passing in 2006. Then in 2007, I moved to China and started teaching both verbal English and American History to high-school students; this by far was the best job I ever had.
