The Pulpit

We will consider the idea of women teaching in the Church and what the Scripture instructs. Thus, the question is, does the Church have a place for women to minister as teachers over men? Can a woman be a pastor or deacon?

The Overseers

It is quite clear from Holy Scripture that only men are to be pastors/teachers in the Church. However, somehow women have taken over this role in an overt act of disobedience to the Word of God. Let us look at the qualification for being a Pastor/Overseer from God’s Word.

In 1 Timothy 3:1-3, it says,

1 It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. 2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money.

It says nothing about being the wife, of one husband, but the husband, of one wife. Even so, many women have overstepped the authority of God. One will try to say that was back then; we live in a modern world today. However, the Word of God teaches something entirely different than this philosophy these women present.

In Hebrews 13:8, it says,

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Too many individuals attempt to twist the Scripture to their advantage today using the phrase, “that was back then.” The Word of God continues to rebut this adopted philosophy of women.

In 1 Timothy 2:12, it says,

12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.

From these words alone, it is evident that women have no place teaching the Word of God to any men, for any reason. They may have the ability, but do not have the authority from God.

The Deacon

We have the same requirements for the Deacon laid out in the Holy Scriptures.

In 1 Timothy 3:12, it says,

12 Deacons must be husbands of only one wife, and good managers of their children and their own households.

It speaks once more to the facts that a man has only one wife at a time; polygamy was rampant in history during this period. It is not the other way around; no woman can be a Deacon as well.

Many would contend that women can be deaconesses. These individuals attempt to make a theological stand on one verse in Scripture, Romans 16:1. However, many scholars believe this word “deaconess” as translated in some versions of the Bible was wrong as it should be translated “servant.”

In Romans 16:1, it says,

1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant (not a deaconess), of the church which is at Cenchrea.

Do not underestimate the deception that comes from Satan as he will try anything to destroy the Church of Jesus Christ.

The Order of Authority

In Ephesians 5:22-25, it says,

22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the spouse, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her.

If the wife is to be subject to her husband how can she be a pastor and leader over his authority? The husband is to love his wife; he is to enjoy her in everything just as Christ loved and doted on His Church. This means the husband is to protect his wife even if it means his death. Keep in mind that Christ died for the Church, and He is our example.

In this verse, it says, the husband is to LOVE his wife, if a spouse does this, his wife will love him in return. If the husband loves his wife, and she subjects herself to him, then, there is both harmony and beauty that can only come from God.

The Holy Scripture has set the order of authority, and NO ONE can change this, not even the Church.

In Ephesians 5:22, it says,

22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

The Church of England

An article written in the New York Times concerning The Church of England and their approval in allowing women to become bishops is a disgrace. The Church of England has shown utter contempt once again in the Holy Scriptures. Their endeavor to circumventing of Holy Scripture will bring disaster.

They call it progressiveness and say we must change according to the time. They can call it whatever they wish; in the end, they have forfeited the truth, into a lie by their compromise. Only a return to biblical principles will God bless them.

A woman, in a leadership position over men in the Church, is an anti-Biblical stance that so many individuals believe is acceptable, and they support this lie because of not understanding God’s Word.

The Church of England and others have circulated this lie to God’s people that this concept of women’s leadership is in the Scriptures is acceptable to rule over men. The Church of England is only trying to appease the people who want just a feel-good message. People today want nothing that would upset them or their way of life coming from the pulpit.

Scriptures say that in the last days, they will want their ears tickled, and that is what The Church of England and many other so-called progressives are doing.

In 2 Timothy 4:3-4, it says,

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Thus, the Church of England allows women as Bishops in a direct violation of, 1Timothy 3:1-13. There is no progressiveness in scripture for it is the word of God, and the Bible teaches that Jesus is the same he was yesterday, today and forever. No progressiveness, Jesus remains consistent.

No woman preacher or teachers are allowed to be over men. This can also be for women teaching in Bible colleges. When it comes to the Word of God only a man can teach it to both male, and females. Women can teach women, but not to men.

In Hebrews 13:8, it says,

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

This concept I so fervently believe is biblical. Some may comment, I live, in another world; this is true as I live not only in this earthly world but in the eternal world with my God and Lord Jesus.

There are other mainline churches accepting homosexuals to the point of ordination. Merely shows the depth of depravity that has settled in the Church.

Their reason, they want to be accepted by all, but they forget the scripture teaches in Matthew a shocking amount of people that will be left out on the Day of Judgment.

In Matthew 22:14, it says,

14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Men cannot make scripture say what it wants for this will never stand before the Great Judgment. There will be NO, “that is what the people wanted.”

Remember what happened to Israel when they wanted to be like other nations and have a King over them. They rejected God and suffered the consequences, under this act of folly for God, gave them the King they wanted. A king, King Saul that left the love of God.

Those who believe this to be wrong then prove it from Scripture, and I will change, but until then I remain a staunch in my belief in what God says with no progressiveness or deviation. My Challenge is, prove to me that you are correct from scriptures only and that I am wrong.

About Dr. George Gallant

I have had the opportunity to work in many fields in my life, and excelled in all of them. I started as a mechanic in the Army then went to the Infantry in Vietnam. After returning to America, I worked as a mechanic for a few more years off and on until I found a position as a Dialysis Technician until I became a Chief specialist in a major Boston hospital. In 1981, I became a Police Office in a small town in Northeast Georgia and continued to work with law-enforcement for seven years. I also preached the Word of God in the Toccoa community and wished that I could have found a church that would have taken me on to preach every week. In 1993, I became a computer programmer for many years and loved that job much. In 2003, my wife came down with the worst breast cancer one could get, so I retired and took care of her until her passing in 2006. Then in 2007, I moved to China and started teaching both verbal English and American History to high-school students; this by far was the best job I ever had.
