Study Holy Scripture

Introduction

I read a lot of and talking with individuals on chat, and I discovered that many people lack one thing about the Holy Scriptures. The ability to search the scripture themselves. They rely on the word of someone else to guide them in their walk with the Lord.

However, the Scripture teaches that we are to study ourselves as with the Noble Bereans, demonstrated in the Book of Acts.

In Acts 17:11, it says,

11 Now, these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

Many people believe that the supremacy of the Bible has no value. The Bible is the only book tested by time and overwhelmingly remained on top. Traditions come and go, but the Scripture remains stable.

Study

Christ commanded His followers to study and find the truth. The question is why one must study when people like pastors and Sunday School teachers do that, and all we must do is, just attend that service? That learning is laziness of the highest order.

The simple answer to this question is in the Scripture; as stated below. There is a large denomination out there that does all the study for the individual. With the mindset of this church group, it keeps the people from the truth of Holy Scripture, as it was in the dark ages.

In 2 Timothy 2:15, it says,

15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who needs not be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

Hypocrites

Many hypocrites will tell you they believe in God; but put the Word of God, the Bible on the same level as any written works of man. I just had a chat conversation with such an individual, and throughout our chat’s, this person kept referring to the recorded works of early church history and then told me to read man’s works before the Bible.

I do not judge the Holy Scripture on what man says, but I judge the works of man based on what God has said in His word. The individual stated, “The Bible has supremacy over no one, worship God and God alone. It is a text chosen by the Catholic Church; it was part of what Catholic’s call Sacred Tradition.” To this person, “Tradition” has supremacy not the word of God.

I am not saying the Catholic Church is 100% wrong, no, but the scripture is clear on idolatry, praying for or to the dead for help, indulgences, and many other issues that the Catholics are doing that contradicts the scripture.

I am in good company for even the Reformers did not abide by these same problems as they followed Scripture. Martin Luther, a German professor of theology, tried to change the Catholic Church from the inside but could not. The Catholic Church branded Martin Luther as a criminal and excommunicated him.

Conclusion

Dear people, please do not take the word of anyone about God’s Word unless you know them to be an individual who loves the Lord and would never intentionally hurt or deceive a person with their teaching. However, even if a person can be trusted, always take the time to search it out for yourself.

When we stand before God the Creator we cannot say, “Well, this person said this or that.” No, we stand before God on what we have done not what others have said or done.

About Dr. George Gallant

I have had the opportunity to work in many fields in my life, and excelled in all of them. I started as a mechanic in the Army then went to the Infantry in Vietnam. After returning to America, I worked as a mechanic for a few more years off and on until I found a position as a Dialysis Technician until I became a Chief specialist in a major Boston hospital. In 1981, I became a Police Office in a small town in Northeast Georgia and continued to work with law-enforcement for seven years. I also preached the Word of God in the Toccoa community and wished that I could have found a church that would have taken me on to preach every week. In 1993, I became a computer programmer for many years and loved that job much. In 2003, my wife came down with the worst breast cancer one could get, so I retired and took care of her until her passing in 2006. Then in 2007, I moved to China and started teaching both verbal English and American History to high-school students; this by far was the best job I ever had.
