The Beginning – God

Many fellowships claim to be Christian but deny the validity of the first eleven chapters of Genesis, why? Why is it so many consider these chapters to be a fable with no value?

“In the Beginning God”

“In the beginning, God” these four, but wise words are the foundation of Christianity. The cornerstone of the Church is Jesus Christ, without Him, there is nothing

In 1 Peter 2:6-8, it says,

6 For this is contained in Scripture: “BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” 7 This precious value, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, “THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THIS BECAME THE VERY CORNER stone,” 8 and, “A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE”; for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed.

However, it is unfortunate that the Church in America a nation of free speech is remaining silent. When a few Fellowships speak out to support the Genesis record of creation, they get shot down, why? But many Fellowships fall prey to the evolutionary way of thinking. They believe the six days of creation were considerable periods of time. Modern science has come up with a possible answer to, the creation story. However, science is wrong because they think their mind is superior to God’s mind.

The Church’s Responsibility

Few fellowships are recognizing the first eleven chapters of Genesis as foundational to the rest of Holy Scripture. Many Christians today consider the story of creation, the Garden of Eden, the fall of man, and the global flood, to be fairy tales one tells their children, then rejects them as truth.

One can only wonder why these events have transformed into “fairy tales.” Has the Church surrendered to science and now afraid to fight? Is the Church so wrapped up in eschatology; they ignore the rest of Scripture.

The question is, why is this phenomenon within the Church today?

Teaching God’s People

The teaching of Scripture to God’s people is a top priority. One cannot wage war if one does not understand its enemy. We are at war with Satan, so we must get back to the fundamentals of Scripture. One must wear the full armor that God provides.

In Ephesians 6:10-17, it says,

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, 15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; 16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, it says,

16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

However, many pastors and teachers are frightened to teach Geneses. It seems they would rather teach what their denomination has accepted as truth. (See Denomination)

In 1 Timothy 3:1-3, it says,

1 It is a trustworthy statement: if any man aspires to the office of overseer, it is a fine work he desires to do. 2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money.

“Able to teach” this is a profound statement from Timothy. A pastor out of necessity for the sheep spiritual health must explain all Scriptures, not just what he desires.

Pastors have many tasks today pulling him in all directions. So, the question is, how can the pastor teach, “In the Beginning God,” if he is always doing other things? A pastor must devote himself to the study of God’s Word that he can teach the flock.

In Acts 6:2-4, it says,

2 So the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables. 3 “Therefore, brethren, select from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task. 4 “But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

The Pastor-Teacher Must Understand the Flock

The pastor-teacher must know what his flock is doing in the real world. This knowledge can only come from working side-by-side within the reality of the community they live. So he can understand the problems that arise in the life of each person in the fold. A Pastor cannot know his flock with only book knowledge.

Joseph had trained Jesus as a carpenter before His public ministry. Jesus Christ, the man, even recognized the need for experience before one could teach the word of God. Today when a young man graduates from a Bible school he starts as a senior pastor, and this with NO knowledge of the world because he has been in school for years.

“In the Beginning God” – once more

The whole foundation of Christianity rests on this statement from Genesis 1:1. Yet, many Christians look at these words and call it a “fairy tale,” and do not believe them, why? Do they think that God is stretching the truth of the creation story? Is the Church apprehensive about God’s ability to create? Some Christians believe that the starting point of all that is known started with a “Big Bang” as science tells us?

This so-called, “Big Bang” or any other concept that science wants to propagate is a lie. If there was a “Big Bang,” then where did all the elements come from to cause this explosion we see as the universe today.

In 1 Corinthians 1:27, it says,

27 However, God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.

Lessons of Humility

Therefore, God uses ordinary men to do the work despite all the turmoil; one brings to the table. Paul, having experienced a humbling moment on the Damascus road, became a powerful means of spreading the Word. Even with all Paul’s education, he had to learn the lesson of humility. So, we all must learn this same lesson, humility, and trust God and His Word for the power to fight the evil in the world.

From every experience, we have on the journey to God’s kingdom; we can look, all around and see the real beauty presented to us by God daily. Seeing this world that God created it is easy for one to believe, “In the beginning God.”

Does the Church in America want to know the God of Creation, one hopes so? Some Pastors think preaching is just a job. Teaching God’s people has always been a calling, not a job. The pastor that believes preaching is just a job will never understand what “In the Beginning God” means.

The Church Deacons are so lazy today as they are placing all the work on the Pastor. Then one wonders why so many pastors leave the flock after just a few short years.

What can be done to change this? First, we must believe “In the Beginning God,” one must believe in this statement, or the foundation falls apart. Second, it is Sola Scriptura, Scripture alone.

We must trust in God, and the evidence of His existence is all around us. Just look around as it is everywhere, one only must open their eyes and see.

In Romans 10:17, it says,

17 So faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ.

In Romans 1:20, it says,

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power, and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

About Dr. George Gallant

I have had the opportunity to work in many fields in my life, and excelled in all of them. I started as a mechanic in the Army then went to the Infantry in Vietnam. After returning to America, I worked as a mechanic for a few more years off and on until I found a position as a Dialysis Technician until I became a Chief specialist in a major Boston hospital. In 1981, I became a Police Office in a small town in Northeast Georgia and continued to work with law-enforcement for seven years. I also preached the Word of God in the Toccoa community and wished that I could have found a church that would have taken me on to preach every week. In 1993, I became a computer programmer for many years and loved that job much. In 2003, my wife came down with the worst breast cancer one could get, so I retired and took care of her until her passing in 2006. Then in 2007, I moved to China and started teaching both verbal English and American History to high-school students; this by far was the best job I ever had.
