There are many articles on the Internet stating prostitution is the oldest profession on earth. One will find over fourteen million hits saying prostitution is number one, by just typing (what is the oldest profession) it into the search field.
Individuals who subscribe to this have little to no biblical knowledge. The truth is the oldest profession as God communicated this early in Genesis is agricultural, farming. A look at who was the first human farmer is our aim in this article.
Stop and think for a moment and contemplate just where those enjoyable vegetables come from and how they got to the market and then to one’s home so one can enjoy them sitting at the dining room table for the evening meal.
What is the Real Oldest Profession?
According to Scripture, the oldest profession is the farmer, many believe prostitution is the oldest profession, but it is a lie. The first farmer was God Himself. He planted the first garden in Eden; then God put Adam in the plot of ground to care for it. Adam now becomes the first human farmer caring for and growing his food.
Genesis 2:8, says,
8 God planted a garden in Eden, and there He placed Adam, the man He created (NASB).
While Adam and Eve were in the garden, there was no sin in the world so the practice of prostitution could not be the oldest profession on earth.
After Sin Entered
Adam and Eve had to have children first, then for them to grow to adulthood. Prostitution took root after there were many people on this earth, so it could not have been the oldest profession.
If one believes in Holy Scripture than with no thought, he or she can point back with one-hundred percent certainty; farming was the first and oldest profession. No one can say when prostitution started, but one could say, however, that it was, and is, the number-one cause of the moral destruction of humanity today.
Prostitution falls into the category stated in Scripture as, adultery, or fornication. A prostitute is an immoral person, and it can either be a man or a woman.
Who is the Dirt Farmer?
There are many thinking the farmer is on the bottom rung of the social ladder, stop, think again. Remember, God was the first farmer, and God honored this profession by making it the first job for a man to do. There is no sin in being a farmer because it is a noble profession given to humanity by the God who created this position.
Farmers deserve our respect and thanks, remember; they provide food for us. Farming is a hot, dirty job and we go to the market and grab what we need then go home. Be thankful for the farmer whom God has provided for us.
